Higurashi When They Cry Rei

The first OVA volume contains the "Shihirashi-hen" chapter. "Shihirashi-hen" is a novel written by Ryukishi07 that was originally included as a bonus with the limited edition of the PS2 game Higurashi: When They Cry - Matsuri. It was previously adapted into a Drama CD, and this marks its first anime adaptation. Set in a public swimming pool, this story contrasts sharply with the series' main tone, featuring a light and lively atmosphere where all the main characters appear. OVA volumes 2 through 4 contain the "Saishirashi-hen" chapter. Unlike the first volume, this chapter has a deeper and more oppressive atmosphere. The central character of "Saishirashi-hen" is Rika. Having finally been liberated from her millennium-long struggle at the end of the TV series, she faces tragedy once again. What will be her final choice? It seems Rika is destined for misfortune, yet this trait has made her one of the most popular characters in the series; hopefully, she can truly escape her bad luck this time. The fifth and final OVA volume contains the "Hiruwarashi-hen" chapter. "Hiruwarashi-hen" is a novel written by original creator Ryukishi07, based on the worldview of the action game Higurashi: When They Cry - Dawn, which became a topic of discussion upon its port to PSP. This also marks the novel's first anime adaptation. The story revolves around the secret treasure of the Furude Shrine, the "Fuarazu no Magatama." "Fuarazu" is a katakana abbreviation for the Japanese phrase "fuwa araszu," meaning harmony or getting along. Resonating with this meaning, the chapter depicts a nonsensical romantic comedy involving Rena and the club members.
