Innocence

The story is set in the near future, where technology has advanced significantly with the advent of nanomachines and biological computers. Cyborg bodies have become widespread, connecting the entire world through light and electronics, allowing human brains to interface directly with networks. The protagonist is Batou, a detective from Public Security Section 9, a government agency dedicated to combating terrorism. Batou himself is a cyborg, with his limbs and most of his body replaced by artificial mechanical parts. Only faint memories of humanity remain in his brain, and the image of a girl named "Motoko" constantly surfaces in his mind, impossible to forget. One day, a gynoid suddenly goes out of control and kills its owner. "Why do robots created to serve humans turn against them?" To uncover the cause, Batou and his partner Togusa immediately begin an investigation. Once inside the computer network, Batou's "brain" is repeatedly attacked by unknown hackers as he struggles to get closer to the truth step by step...
