Samurai Champloo

At a tea house, the son of an official and his attendant are bullying customers when a wandering samurai radiating a bestial aura enters. Fuu, who works at the tea house, is deliberately tripped, causing tea to spill onto the attendant. Just as the official's son moves to sever Fuu's finger, Mugen intervenes and saves her. Meanwhile, Jin, disgusted by the official's tyranny over the townspeople, beats him up. Later, Jin encounters Mugen, who is currently disciplining the official's son at the tea house, and mistakes him for one of the official's skilled subordinates, leading them into combat. After a fierce battle where neither gains the upper hand, the tea house is set on fire. Mugen and Jin continue fighting amidst the flames until they lose consciousness. When the two awaken, they have been captured by the official. They are subjected to torture and sentenced to beheadings the following day. That night, Fuu attempts to rescue them but fails because the key accidentally breaks. On the day of execution, Mugen and Jin break free from their bindings and kill the official, but gradually wear out under the weight of being surrounded. Fuu timely uses fireworks to help the two escape. Having just broken through the encirclement, Mugen and Jin prepare to settle their score, but Fuu stops them. After flipping a coin, Mugen and Jin are forced to accompany Fuu in search of "the samurai who smells of sunflowers." Thus begins the trio's journey.
