Ayakashi: Japanese Classic Horror

This work marked a departure for noitaminA from its previous focus on anime adaptations of shoujo manga such as Honey and Clover. It is based on three classic Japanese ghost stories spanning history to the present day: Yotsuya Kaidan, Tenshu Monogatari, and Bakeneko. The creators infused these tales with their unique interpretations and modern perspectives, adding new layers to the narratives so that even those familiar with the original works could experience them with a fresh sense of wonder in this avant-garde masterpiece. The three stories were produced as separate shorts, meaning there is no connection between them, and each production team worked independently on their respective segments. Consequently, each story possesses its own distinct style, and the artwork varies significantly from one tale to another.
