Utawarerumono

The story is set in a historical, warring-states era populated by beast-ear, beast-tail, and winged races. It is said that the costumes and proper nouns were inspired by the Ainu people who currently live in central and northern Hokkaido. The plot begins with Hakuowlo, a masked man injured on the roadside, receiving treatment from Eruruu, a beast-eared girl he has never met before. The narrative progresses through roughly four stages: Hakuowlo leading the people to rise up against tyranny, leading the defense of their nation, liberating oppressed citizens of other nations through war, and finally protecting the entire world. Questions regarding the continent's history, Hakuowlo's true identity, and the origins of these different races are gradually resolved as the scope of the conflict expands. The character designs are handled entirely by Amatsuki, exuding charm. Looking at the ending, it is a tearjerker; in terms of content, it is an alternate history with rich settings. The overall aesthetic features a unique ethnic style that ultimately incorporates ultra-future elements, creating a striking impression.
