This is a romance story about a boy who moves to a small town in the north due to family circumstances and lives with his cousin, meeting various girls in that town. As a game, players must choose one of these girls to continue advancing the plot. Even in the original adult version, erotic elements are quite sparse, focusing primarily on the backgrounds of the girls and their related stories. Many fans gave it rave reviews for being moved to tears by the storyline. Since then, games incorporating sad and touching elements, commonly known as "nakige" (cry-games), began to become popular, having a significant impact on subsequent text-adventure romance games. This is Toei's first adaptation of Kanon.
