MADLAX

The story centers on two young women who appear to have nothing in common and are unaware of each other's existence. Madlax is a legendary mercenary and assassin with no memory of her past, operating in the Kingdom of Casassonica, which is engulfed in civil war. The other heroine is Margaret Barton, the sole heiress of a wealthy noble family in the peaceful European nation of Nafales. Twelve years before the start of the story, the plane carrying Margaret and her mother crashed in Casassonica. After that incident, the other passengers on the plane and Margaret's father, who was commanding the rescue operation, remained unaccounted for. Margaret returned alone to Nafales, having lost her memories, except for one word she could recall: "Madlax." This clue connects the two girls. They begin investigating the powerful criminal organization Enfant independently after its mysterious mastermind shows interest in both of them.
