A story set in the world of "POLYPHONICA," composed solely of three elements: spirits, humans, and divine music. On the continent of POLYPHONICA, where humans and spirits coexist and spirits possess power, people rely on the miracles brought by spirits, while spirits feed on the music played by humans. Spirits exert their influence over all matter and every place in this world. Controlled by music performed by musicians, spirits unleash their power. Those who can play special music are called "Divine Music Players" (Shingaku Rakushi) and enjoy supreme honor. Although spirits usually remain invisible, some powerful ones manifest physically in the forms of humans or animals, integrating into society as humanity's "best friends." The protagonist, Tatara Fluon, is a student at Fude Divine Music Academy, which trains Divine Music Players. He inadvertently formed a contract with the most powerful spirit, Corticarte, yet he faces a dangerous risk of failing to advance because he cannot play the essential divine music. The story depicts the love and growth between Corticarte and Tatara Fluon during academy life. They encounter various events, including being pursued and fighting battles. Through these experiences, the narrative explores characters becoming companions and delves into the major theme of mutual understanding between different beings—humans and spirits. On a night bathed in clear moonlight, two figures met on the roof of an orphanage. The incomparably powerful spirit—Corticarte—and the lonely boy—Fluon. "I want you to belong only to me. The form of your soul that you depict belongs only to me. Is that alright?" The spirit chanted the words of the contract. It was a sacred ritual forging a bond. However, for the boy, everything was nothing more than a fleeting dream. Later, time passed, and that dreamlike bond was reactivated by chance.
