Charady's Joke-a-Day

Kyoto University of Art and Design provided the original concept for this short anime, "Charady's Joke-a-Day," which began broadcasting on April 1, 2009. The series is planned to run for 365 episodes continuously over one year. Told from the perspective of a 26-year-old female college student, it features various nonsensical comedic stories. While somewhat reminiscent of the classic children's anime series "Avanti," it leans closer to Western fables. The title derives from the American term "bathtime joke," referring to the state of enjoying reading joke books while soaking in a bathtub (a playful interpretation). Produced by The Fool, the direction was jointly handled by students specializing in character design at Kyoto University of Art and Design. Although they are still interns and their craftsmanship is not yet mature—with an art style similar to domestic Chinese productions—there is no denying that the next generation will rely on them to carve out a space in the industry. This new anime is essentially an experimental work, so it should be viewed purely for entertainment. The heroine Charady is voiced by actress Misako Yasuda. The DVD set, comprising six volumes, was scheduled for release in summer 2009, with related books also launching alongside the TV anime.
