The series consists of six episodes, with the first released in November 2005. Three episodes were released in 2005, while episodes four through six were released after mid-2007. "Karas" is an anime that combines fighting, detective, and supernatural elements, blending fantasy and science fiction. Its soundtrack was performed by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, and it won the Outstanding Work Award in the OVA category at the 5th Tokyo International Anime Fair in 2006. The story of "Karas" takes place in a fictional Shinjuku filled with yokai (supernatural creatures) and follows Otoha and his connection to Shinjuku. Otoha is a "Karas," a powerful guardian recognized by the city (represented by Yurine as the agent of the city's will). In the story, the previous Karas, Kaiyo, attempts to take control of the Shinjuku he once protected. Otoha, along with other yokai and Karas, tries to stop him.
