The story depicts the first-generation Fairlady Z, known as the "Devil's Z," driven by the protagonist Akio Asakura, the human relationships surrounding it, and the many challengers who are aware of their own madness yet still challenge the "Devil's Z" in public road battles, primarily on the Shuto Expressway, only to disappear. The timeline spans over a decade, similar to real time, but the ages and aging of the main characters remain largely unrelated to this progression.
