Originally a fantasy-themed role-playing visual combat book published by an American company, Queen's Blade was re-released in Japan by Hobby Japan in 2005. Targeting fans of beautiful girls, it spawned numerous derivatives including manga, novels, drama CDs, dakimakura, and figures. While it should have been a hardcore strategy battle game, under the guise of large-breasted beauties, its significance as an art collection far outweighed its gameplay value. The TV anime Queen's Blade: The Exiled Virgin, which began airing in April 2009, generated considerable buzz, leading to the decision for a second season even before the final episode aired. The sequel, Queen's Blade: The Successors of the Throne, was scheduled to start broadcasting in October 2009.
