Persepolis

"Persepolis" is a 2007 animated film based on the graphic novel of the same name by Marjane Satrapi. As a child, Marjane was an imaginative nine-year-old girl who loved Western culture and idolized Bruce Lee. God was her best friend; she spent her days daydreaming and aspired to become the last prophet in the universe. Her parents and grandmother sometimes found her exhausting, while those around her considered her a strange child. Conservative Iranian women viewed her as a symbol of Western corruption. Her love for all things Western was not accepted by her conservative homeland, so she could only secretly buy vinyl records and other cherished items. She initially thought life would continue this whimsical way until a series of conservative revolutions and spreading warfare forced her parents to send her to Europe. Throughout her growing years, hardships continually occurred. After being deeply wounded by love, she began to miss her hometown, her parents, and her grandmother with her scent of jasmine. She chose to return home, hoping that everyone could find joy and make up for lost time, but when the true meaning of freedom appeared before her, she had to leave her homeland once again to pursue her dreams...
