This anime is an adaptation of "Tales of Phantasia," the founding work of Namco's hugely popular "Tales" series. The game version has spanned three platforms—SFC, PS, and GBA—demonstrating its charm as the cornerstone title of the Tales franchise. The anime retains Mr. Kosuke Fujishima's character designs and follows the game's script, showcasing the grand scale of the Tales of Phantasia world, its profound story themes, and intricate fates. Released in OVA format, the production quality is significantly higher than the previous "Tales of Eternia" anime. Regarding voice actors, aside from the late Kaneto Shiozawa (who voiced Dhaos) being replaced by Toshiyuki Morikawa, the cast otherwise features the same lineup as the PS version. The theme song and ending song are performed by Maho Suzuki.
