Happy Tree Friends

"Happy Tree Friends" (literal translation: "Jolly Forest") is a cartoon series by Mondo Mini Shows, characterized by its dark comedy. The creators include Kenn Navarro, Warren Graff, Aubrey Ankrum, and Rhode Montijo. The official website states that the show is "not recommended for small children and big babies." Despite the cute designs of the characters, the entire series is filled with extreme violence. It is gory throughout, with each episode featuring numerous characters being killed in very cruel or "innovative" ways, often involving massive blood sprays or exposed innards. The death scenes in Happy Tree Friends are more direct compared to those in "The Itchy & Scratchy Show," a fictional program within The Simpsons. Each episode lasts approximately 3 to 5 minutes and features one or more main characters. There are 22 characters in total, all depicted as adorable little animals. Plots commonly start with daily life or jokes before escalating into tragic disasters. The series generally lacks dialogue, though it includes sighs and screams from the characters. Clearly, their reactions are the only language understood. Episodes typically conclude with a moral lesson or aphorism, usually related to the main character of that episode. Happy Tree Friends was conceived when Rhode Montijo drew a yellow rabbit resembling Cuddles on a piece of paper and wrote underneath it: "Resistance Is Futile."
