Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind

The story is set in a future world where industrial civilization reached its peak before being destroyed by a war known as the 'Seven Days of Fire'. The world is now covered by a new ecosystem called the Toxic Jungle, composed of fungi and giant insects. The remaining humanity lives on small patches of land, struggling to survive amidst the threat of giant insects and the poisonous miasma released by the Toxic Jungle. The Valley of the Wind is a small coastal kingdom that has remained uncorrupted by the Toxic Jungle thanks to the protective sea breezes. Its princess, Nausicaä, is a kind, intelligent, and brave sixteen-year-old girl skilled in gliding who can read and command the wind, and possesses the ability to communicate with Ohmu (giant insects). After a Tolmekian transport aircraft carrying the God Warrior—a biological weapon from the Seven Days of Fire war—crashes into the valley, Nausicaä and her kingdom are drawn into a conflict over the God Warrior. On the second day, while everyone was cleaning up after the crash, the Tolmekian army, led by Fourth Princess Kushana, swiftly invaded the valley with one Corvette battleship and four cargo planes. They occupied the Valley of the Wind without firing a shot, resulting in the death of King Jihl. To replenish their resources, they took supplies from the valley, leaving only the God Warrior in the castle and assigning Chief Strategist Kurotowa with reviving it. The next day, Nausicaä, Yupa, and three other hostages were taken by Kushana toward Pejite. Along the way, they were spotted by a Pejite gunship. The pilot, Asbel, immediately attacked the Tolmekian fleet. Except for the Corvette and the Valley's cargo plane, all four other cargo planes were hit and crashed. Only Nausicaä, Yupa, and Kushana survived, escaping the aerial battle in the Valley's cargo plane. Eventually, Nausicaä falls into the Toxic Jungle and reaches its bottom, discovering its secret: the jungle purifies the polluted earth, a process that generates toxic miasma. Beneath the purified soil lie clean air and water, and the Ohmu serve as guardians of this system. In the climax, when remnants of Pejite use a baby Ohmu to lure a swarm of adult Ohmu to attack the Valley of the Wind in an attempt to reclaim the God Warrior from the Tolmekians, Nausicaä saves the baby Ohmu and sacrifices herself to calm the enraged swarm. The Ohmu then use their special powers to revive Nausicaä. Bathed in the morning sun, Nausicaä dances joyfully on a golden field formed by the Ohmu's tentacles, fulfilling the ancient prophecy that a person clad in blue would bring hope to the golden fields.
