Legend holds that, long ago, humans built a city capable of floating in the sky using advanced technology: Laputa. Although most believe this to be nothing more than fantasy, there are still those who trust in the existence of the flying city and seek it out.
One night, an airship carrying numerous passengers is suddenly attacked and boarded by a gang of sky pirates. The pirates' target is Sheeta, a young girl aboard the ship, who possesses a "flight stone" linked to the legend of the flying city.
To reclaim the flight stone and thwart Muska's ambitions, Pazu and Sheeta board the Dola family's airship and set off for Laputa—the legendary Castle in the Sky.
