Synopsis

On their way back from visiting Shinji's mother's grave, Shinji and Misato Katsuragi are attacked by the Seventh Angel. Unit-02 arrives just in time to decisively defeat it, leading Shinji to meet its pilot, Asuka Langley Soryu. Unlike the quiet Rei Ayanami, Asuka is confident and flamboyant, even arrogant at times, resulting in many humorous situations as she interacts with Shinji. The three pilots, operating Units 00, 01, and 02 respectively, repel a fierce attack by the Eighth Angel. During this time, subtle romantic feelings begin to blossom among them. Soon after, the Ninth and Tenth Angels arrive, forcing Shinji and his companions to face a brutal test of life and death.
