Air: The Movie

"Long, long ago, in a certain place, there was a princess with wings. She was all alone, without any friends." In a small town where the sea and sky are visible, this story has been passed down for generations. It is a tragic love tale between a princess with white wings on her back and the boy who protects her. Because of her unusual body, the princess was confined to her room, unable to see the outside world. She heard that her mother was far away but could not go to meet her. One day, a boy appeared before the lonely princess. He would talk about things from the outside world to cheer her up. Unconsciously, the two fell in love. However, there was a curse—those with wings were forbidden from having love. The girl, Misuzu Kamio, felt that her lonely self resembled the princess in the story. Frail and often ill, Misuzu could not attend school and had no friends. She had never left her city. Yet, she always hoped that she might have an encounter like the princess in the story. Before such Misuzu, a boy appeared—Yukito Kunisaki. He was a traveling boy who made dolls for people along his journey. His deceased mother had once told him, "Save the girl in the air." The winged princess and the boy who protected her continued to love each other despite the curse; the girl whose fate mirrored that of the princess; and the boy who embarked on a journey to save "the girl in the air." Now and past intertwine, and longing transcends the boundaries of time and space. What will be the outcome of their respective romances?
