"Let's become manga artists together!" Moritaka Mashiro, a middle school student who spends his days idly in what he perceives as a boring future where survival is troublesome, is approached one day by Akira Takato, the top scholar in their grade. "It has always been my dream to become a manga artist," says an impassioned Takato, "and if I, with my literary talent, partner with you, Mashiro, who has excellent drawing skills, we can achieve that dream." Mashiro firmly rejects the invitation. Three years prior, after witnessing the death of his uncle, his favorite professional manga artist, Mashiro had given up on becoming a manga artist like him. However, that evening, after receiving a call from Takato, Mashiro visits the home of the girl he admires, Miho Azuki. After witnessing Takato's impressive "confession" and Azuki's remarkable "response," a flustered Mashiro proposes to Azuki: "If our manga gets an anime adaptation, will you marry me?!" To fulfill his promise to Azuki, Mashiro resolves to join Takato on the difficult path toward becoming professional manga artists. Completely novice at first, the two go from creating manga to submitting applications to editorial departments, aiming for serialization, betting all their youth and passion on manga! Will Mashiro and Takato succeed in becoming professional manga artists and getting serialized? Will Mashiro and Azuki reach a happy ending!? A surreal story of youth realizing boys' dreams begins now!
