Heian Arc In the mid-Heian period, the capital falls into disrepair due to famine and plague, while samurai and onmyoji engage in a power struggle. Unable to bear seeing the people suffer, the imperial court appoints Minamoto no Raiko, a master archer, to find legendary magatama with special spiritual powers to restore peace to the capital. However, Raiko falls ill, and his sister Hikaru disguises herself as her brother to embark on a quest for the magatama. Initially accompanied by her loyal retainer Watanabe Tsuna, Hikaru meets various people along the journey, gradually gaining companions. Encounters with the beautiful young shakuhachi player Manzaraku and the mysterious onmyoji Abe no Seimei, who operates behind the scenes at court, draw Hikaru into numerous incidents. Concealing her budding feelings, Hikaru, disguised as a man, is thrown into the turbulent political struggles of the capital. Tokyo Arc In Tokyo, seventeen-year-old Hikaru attends a high school within the city. Having lost both parents, she inherits only an apartment building called "Minamoto-so" in Okubo, where she lives working as its caretaker. The residents include Tsuna, Sadamitsu, Kintaro—a gluttonous imp who follows Sadamitsu—and Bucho, an eccentric fortune teller. Meanwhile, Hikaru's brother Raiko mysteriously disappeared a year ago. One day, Hikaru unexpectedly spots her brother on the streets of Tokyo, but Tsuna, who is beside her, cannot see him. Afterward, Hikaru becomes entangled in this incident, and those around her begin to vanish one by one under mysterious circumstances. What major event is about to unfold on the streets of present-day Tokyo?
