Pom Poko

In the minds of Japanese people, tanuki are mysterious animals that can use illusions similar to sleight of hand, changing their bodies into any shape or turning leaves into money to deceive humans. In "Pom Poko," a group of tanuki living near Tokyo attempts to use these illusions to scare humans and halt new community construction projects, but due to various internal and external reasons, the ending is quite unfortunate. The story follows a group of tanuki living in the forests of Tama Hills in Tokyo, whose previously peaceful lives are suddenly disrupted by human housing development plans. Faced with an existential crisis, the tanuki decide to relearn the transformation techniques left behind by their ancestors. They send two messengers to Sado Island and Shikoku to seek assistance from elder tanuki, hoping to compete against humanity...
