Long ago, the Millennium Earl sought to dominate Earth. Although someone used divine power to defeat him and restore peace to the world, a prophecy foretold that the Millennium Earl would return. Now, the Millennium Earl has come back once more to conquer the world by turning the souls of the dead into Akuma. However, those who turn the deceased's souls into Akuma are actually the people closest to them. They did not intentionally corrupt these souls; rather, blinded by confusion, they believed the Earl's lies that he could resurrect their loved ones. In the end, instead of bringing them back to life, they turned them into abominations—weapons for the Millennium Earl known as "Akuma." But everything changed when a certain person discovered a stone box. To combat the Akuma, some individuals chosen by God possess the ability to destroy their structure. Their organization is called the "Black Order." The dark exorcists of the Black Order are known as "Exorcists." They wield cursed weapons with supernatural properties, and through them, everything will be changed. They are the natural enemies of the Millennium Earl.
