My Neighbors the Yamadas

Mr. Yamada is an ordinary company employee who projects parental authority on the surface but feels melancholy over trivial matters. Mrs. Yamada is a housewife with a heavy Kansai accent. Their son, Shige, is a middle school student just entering puberty with average grades, while their daughter, Nonoko, is an innocent kindergarten child. There is also the children's grandmother—elderly yet often appearing cool, and always speaking with sharp insight. This kind of family can be found anywhere under the sun and moon; they share familial bonds, middle-aged love, quarrels, and nagging. They fight and feel sad, then reconcile and find joy. Autumn is bright but must eventually pass. Home remains the warmest place, and the children are growing up.
