Four years after the "Twilight" incident came to an end, mysterious events reappear in THE WORLD, bearing a striking resemblance to those from four years prior. Encouraged by Rena, Shugo enters THE WORLD without even reading the manual. While marveling at the development of online gaming, Shugo encounters various characters. Once Rena joins him, they begin the most fundamental task in any RPG: leveling up... Meanwhile, Milly, intrigued by limited-edition characters, follows them all the way to the Monster Plains. Due to his lack of experience, Shugo is quickly beaten into critical condition, but thanks to Rena's help, they are still able to easily defeat the monsters. After Rena complains, Shugo reluctantly opens the manual... Confident once more, Shugo returns to battle, only to unexpectedly encounter the incredibly powerful General Kaidai. To cover Rena's escape, Shugo dies at the hands of the General. However, after death, Shugo realizes his body is out of control—a mysterious girl's sacred kiss saying "You cannot die" revives Milly, who accepts the Golden Bracelet. Upon waking up, they discover that Rena is being pursued by the General Kaidai. Balmung appears and attempts to intervene, but is shocked to find that this General possesses immortality. After using data conversion, Rena is saved. After dealing with Gunyarin, Milly makes her appearance, but Rena pulls Shugo away. On the other hand, Balmung begins to realize the severity of the situation. This series is the sequel to .hack//SIGN, featuring a chibi art style. It offers a fresh perspective on THE WORLD, as it has a stronger connection to the game itself, and the story's atmosphere is much lighter.
