Every three hundred years, the Dance of HiMEs is initiated by the Obsidian King. During the battle, the HiMEs (Highly-Advanced Materializing Equipment) must defeat the Orphans and their companions to become the sole winner among all HiMEs, thereby gaining the power bestowed by the Obsidian King: "Yukariki." The HiMEs fight using their unique Elements and Children; some possess considerable combat power, while others are limited to reconnaissance. Conceptually, HiMEs have the right to choose whether or not to use their abilities in any situation, but ultimately, as the song of the Golden Angels suggests, they are merely birds in a cage—girls unable to easily find love nor maintain friendship.
