Comic Party

The anime adaptation of "Comic Party" was broadcast as a 13-episode UHF anime from April 2 to June 25, 2001, primarily on independent UHF stations. It also aired simultaneously during the same period on TV Hokkaido, TV Aichi, and TVQ Kyushu Broadcasting (TXN network), as well as Aomori Broadcasting and Hiroshima Home Television. In adapting the series for anime, significant changes were made to the original settings. The four main characters—Kazuki Senda, Taishi Kubofuda, Mizuki Takase, and Yuu Inagawa—were changed from college students in the game to high school classmates. Chisa Tsukamoto was also reimagined as a younger student attending the same high school. Furthermore, Ikumi Tachikawa was changed to an elementary school student who sends letters rather than emails to Kazuki. Additionally, the character designs were simplified significantly for animation production, moving away from the delicate style of the original work. This change is evident in details such as the temple arms of Taishi's glasses; while they had a distinctive jagged shape in the original, they are depicted as straight in the anime version. Regarding the content, unlike many works based on adult games or galge, this series features a coherent narrative with a clear introduction, development, twist, and conclusion centered on the protagonist Kazuki's growth through his doujinshi activities. Because the story focuses heavily on the plot, the heroine role is narrowed down to Mizuki, and apart from Yuu, who serves as a narrator-like presence, the appearance frequency of other heroines is relatively low. Also, due to TV broadcasting standards, sexual fanservice involving female characters is virtually non-existent, limited mostly to scenes featuring swimsuits. As for jokes and parodies, characters from the anime "To Heart" (Akari, Shiho, Multi, and Masashi) appear in the cold open of Episode 1 (with original art by Yuriko Chiba and voice actors matching the original cast). The two series are actually set in the same world, and elements mentioned by them, such as the popular band "Childish An Hour," also appear in dialogue spoken by Kazuki and his friends. Additionally, since the animation was produced by OLM and the project by KSS, references to works like "Steel Angel Kurumi" and "Wedding Peach" were included. Note that this work is often referred to as the "KSS Version" or "Original Anime Version" to distinguish it from the later "Comic Party Revolution." A budget DVD box set was released on June 22, 2007.
