In the story of Tsubasa Chronicle, the first world is the desert city of Kou Country (translated as Guro Country by TVB). Years ago, the young Shaoran came to this country with his adoptive father, the archaeologist Fujitaka, hoping to excavate the wing-shaped ruins of the country and unravel the mystery of Kou Country's history. Through this, Shaoran met various people in Kou Country, including Sakura, the princess who was his childhood friend. The two had always harbored feelings for each other, but due to their status differences, Shaoran never dared to confess. After Fujitaka passed away, Shaoran inherited his father's will and continued the excavation and research work. However, during a visit by Princess Sakura and her brother, King Touya, the ruins suddenly began to fluctuate. Sakura's memories turned into feathers and scattered into the wind. The priest Yukito tended to the injured King Touya while telling Shaoran that Sakura's memory feathers had been scattered across different dimensional worlds, and to save Sakura, he must retrieve all of her feathers. Thus, Yukito sent Shaoran to Yuuko Ichihara, the "Dimension Witch," to ask her how to save Sakura. At the same time, Fai, a sorcerer from the country of Celes who was fleeing from the Ashura King, and Kurogane, a samurai expelled from Japan by Princess Tomoyo, also came to Yuuko, seeking a method to traverse dimensions so they could continue escaping or return to their homelands. Yuuko then presented Mokona, which could transport them through different dimensions, but the condition was an "equivalent exchange" using their most precious possessions. To continue fleeing from the Ashura King, Fai offered up the special tattoo on his back; to return to Japan, Kurogane paid with his unique sword; and to save Sakura, Shaoran sacrificed his "relationship" with her—meaning that even if all of Sakura's feathers were recovered, she would not remember the time she spent with Shaoran in the past. And so, Shaoran, accompanied by Princess Sakura, Kurogane, and Fai, embarked on a journey traversing various dimensions, fighting to retrieve Sakura's feathers. The story of Tsubasa Chronicle features many characters from CLAMP's previous works. In different worlds, these characters lead different lives, but their "roots" (which can be seen as their nature or souls) remain the same; this setting is similar to that of the Jet Li film The One. In the book CLAMP Miracle, this concept is referred to as the "Star System."
