Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society

The story takes place in 2034, two years after the refugee incident involving Section 2 of Public Security. The newly reorganized Section 9, reinforced with twenty additional members, is once again called upon to investigate a series of suicides by terrorists marked with Sanskrit tattoos and a hostage situation at an airport. From a suspect's confession, they learn that the mastermind behind these events is an ultra-advanced hacker known as "the Puppet Master." During a covert investigation, veteran Batou unexpectedly encounters Major Motoko Kusanagi, whom he has not seen for two years. However, their reunion is brief; Kusanagi's mysterious actions and her warning, "Do not approach the Solid State Society," lead even Batou to mistakenly believe she is the Puppet Master. Togusa, who was appointed section chief due to Kusanagi's disappearance two years prior, is baffled by the enigmatic suicides. Meanwhile, another troubling case arises: sixteen kidnapped missing children are discovered, all having had their memories of their parents erased. Upon investigating their guardians, it turns out they are all lonely, widowed elderly people. As the investigation deepens, the incidents become increasingly unbelievable. The number of missing children swells to over twenty thousand, government officials attempt to hire assassins to kill themselves, the Puppet Master invades wirelessly like a hypnotist, Togusa's beloved daughter becomes a target, and Togusa himself nearly loses his life... One mystery bubbles up after another like boiling water, escalating rapidly. What exactly does the Solid State Society refer to? Just when everyone is left without clues, Kusanagi finally appears. What turning point will she bring to the situation?
